Public Golf Courses in Maine

For golfers who like variety, scenic
locations, and challenging new courses,
Maine is the place to tee it up.

More than 100 courses are open to the public, and offer mountain, lake, and
oceanfront layouts.  Plus, affordable rates and available tee times mean more
holes to play on a weekend getaway or extended stay.

Maine shines as northern New England's most recommended golf destination.
Sugarloaf Golf Club's mountain course in Carrabassett Valley is #45 on Golf
Digest's 2007 list of America's 100 Greatest Public Courses. Central Maine's
Belgrade Lakes Golf Club is also on the list and was ranked #77 on GOLF
magazine's 2006 Top 100 Places You Can Play.

Two-year old Sunday River Golf Club in the four-season resort village of
Newry has already been named to Travel + Leisure Golf's Top 10 Best New
Courses in the World, and Golf Digest's Best New Public Courses $75 and Over.
Rockport's oceanside Samoset Resort Golf Club has been tabbed Golf Digest's
Top Ranked Resort Course in New England, and #7 Most Beautiful in America.

Twenty three new courses have opened in the last 10 years, but golfers can also
play some of the nation's most historic links while in Maine.
Bar Harbor's Kebo
Valley Golf Clu
b is the 8th oldest course in the country, opened in 1888, while
the 1893 Poland Spring Country Club is the oldest resort course in America.

Many of Maine's courses have a secluded feel, whether the setting is a 4,000-foot
mountain range, rolling farmland, or the edge of the ocean. The nine-hole
Mount Kineo Golf Course awaits guests on an island in Moosehead Lake, the
state's largest inland body of water. For a taste of Scotland, The Links at
Outlook in the southern town of South Berwick, features rolling dunes and
scattered sand bunkers on a 140-acre layout set in open fields.

The Maine Golf Trail Guide is a great resource for golfers visiting the state for
the first time, or you can get a copy by calling Golf Maine Association by calling
