Notes from the Heart...
We visited our trusty Mr. Phelps in Westmoreland
this weekend for a Christmas tree. He is going strong
at 97, running his Christmas tree farm with one of his
six children. His daughter showed us his Boston Post
Cane and said, in a whisper "...he visited the doctor
and he has no chronic diseases. None." Indeed
Mr. Phelps looked very sturdy, leaning up against
a cabinet in his wood fired kitchen. "See you next
year!" he said with a chuckle. ~M.

Be a bit more careful with gift cards this year. Many retailers are teetering and if
they go belly up, that gift card all of sudden has a new use, fodder for a shredder.
Some stores to avoid are Circuit City, Linens 'n Things, Gap and more.

The holiday season arrives and the annual dilemma begins; a real tree or an
artificial one?
Recipe: Pan Seared Sea Scallops with Toasted Pecans & Sherry Sauce
Good scallops should not be masked by rich or creamy sauces, and I prefer to
simply sear them in a very hot pan and make a quick reduction with the pan
juices.
