| Notes from my back porch... You've been telling me that subscribing to this newsletter is like getting a much-needed "dose" of New England every week. Many of you have once lived here (like those of you from the West Coast or the South who are keenly missing the fall foliage right about now), others have visited briefly but have never forgotten (I particularly remember the kind email one gentleman who wrote from Japan, and another woman from Russia who fondly reminisced her trip to Vermont many years ago). Other subscribers do live here and want a reminder of how lucky we are to live in this special area of the country. I must say I'm pretty lucky myself -- not only to live here but to share all the sights, sounds and tastes of northern New England with you every week. :) This is truly a labor of love for me and I want to thank you all for subscribing and sharing why New England is close to your heart. ~ m. Our Stories This Week: New Englander Essay: How I Got "Wyethed" (by Maine resident and painter, Brian Kliewer) "I grew up in "Wyeth Country" here in Maine (which encompasses an area of the Midcoast that has been home to three generations of Wyeths). Being from the area, I even I see him (Andrew Wyeth) from time to time and once stood in line behind him at a local frame shop...." Read on... New England Garden: Garlic planting season is coming! In Season Recipe: Spaghetti with Roasted Heirloom Tomatoes By Charlie Burke This recipe uses roasting to concentrate the different flavors of a mix of our tomatoes. Although they roast for a couple of hours, the hands-on time of preparation is quite short, and it takes little additional effort to make enough for several meals. Freezing it enables peak of season tomatoes to be enjoyed on the coldest winter day. Click here for Spaghetti with Roasted Heirloom Tomatoes recipe... Mark Your Calendar: September 30 & October 1 Corn shucking, barn dancing, hot-spiced cider & homemade donuts...what more can you ask for in a Vermont Harvest Festival?
