Polar Express Train
Lincoln, NH
Selected nights in December

On selected nights in December the Polar Express departs from the Hobo
Railroad Station in Lincoln, NH. Passengers are encouraged to arrive in their
pajamas to live the experience of the little boy in The Polar Express© depicted by
the Tom Hanks movie released last year. A huge group of volunteer elves greet
the visitors to the North Pole which features a Great Hall where the experience
begins. This event is a benefit for Believe in Books Literacy Foundation. The next

Jefferson Annual Christmas Festival
Jefferson, NH (in New Hampshire's North Woods)
Mid-December

Jefferson Annual Christmas Festival Open House brings a line up of activities
including bon fire, craft fair, horse and wagon rides, petting zoo, dog sledding
demonstration, open houses, memory tree, lunch, treasure hunt, story hour, and
yes, Santa Claus.  Dinner (5-7pm) at Odd Fellows Hall in Jefferson consists of
cooked ham, homemade beans, homemade slaw, homemade brown bread, plus
several desserts to choose from as well as coffee, tea, and cold drinks. Dinner is
only $7 for adults, $5 for children 5-12, and free for 4 and under. Free festival; free

Victorian Christmas

Festival of Lights

Traditional celebrations of light mark the approach of the longest night of winter
in many lands. Celebrate these with food, music, story, song,
and craft for all ages at the Mariposa Museum Festival of Light. The event will be
included in the museum admission ($5 adults; $3 children) for hands-on exhibits;
costume, puppet, multicultural library and musical instrument centers. School
tours and outreach visits may be arranged for preschool through senior citizens

New Hampshire Snow Sculpting Competition
Jackson, NH
Held Last Weekend of January


This three day sanctioned event brings breathtaking
snow sculptures to the Jackson Town Park in the center
of Jackson Village, a location with lots of visibility,
free parking and close proximity to lodging and restaurants.
Three-member teams begin sculpting columns of snow 8' high and 4' in
diameter on Friday morning and complete sculptures in time for judging on
Sunday morning, many working through the nights.

March Maple Madness
North Conway, NH
Late March

The Open Door Bed & Breakfasts Inn the White Mountains will host the
second annual Maple Madness March...an inn-to-inn event! In addition to a
self-guided tour of the participating inns, ticket holders will sample maple
selections, both savory and sweet, and have the opportunity to participate in
the judging of each inn's entrance door decorations. As they continue their
drive, participants can learn about "sugaring" at maple sugar houses and visit
participating vendors, "Maple Country Partners," along the way. However, the
truly adventurous at heart are encouraged to do the Maple Madness
March...a cross between a road rally, scavenger hunt, and reality survivor

Sap Gathering Contest at Stonewall Farm
Keene, NH
Late March

Learn more about the story of maple sugaring in New England!  Each year
Stonewall Farm hosts about twenty teams of draft horses and their teamsters
to race along a course set up in the woodlands behind our Learning Center.
They gather sap from old-fashioned buckets, which are then dumped into a
large holding tank at the end of the run. Teams are judged for technique, time
and quantity, etc. Other activities include: Workhorse Obstacle Course, Maple
Sugaring Demos & Syrup Samples Hayrides, Small Animal, Area Exhibits,

5 Colleges Book Sale
Hanover, NH

This is a traditional book sale that has been happening every spring since 1961.  
Books on all subjects, carefully sorted and modestly priced, will be offered for
sale as well as maps, prints, memorabilia and ephemera, CDs, videos, DVDs and
tapes. Auction items of special interest will be offered on Saturday morning. Most
books on Sunday will be half price. All profits go to scholarship funds for New
Hampshire and Vermont students at Mt. Holyoke, Simmons, Smith, Vassar and
Wellesley. Held at the Hanover High School Gym.

30th Annual Market Days and Summer Music Festival
Concord, NH

This outstanding multigenerational/cultural event attracts thousands of residents
and tourists to our historic state capital. Thanks to the generosity of Sponsors and
Downtown Merchants, the festival is free! Shoppers delight during this open-air
festival when Main Street is lined from Pleasant Street to Centre Street with
bargains from a hundred retail vendors. During the day, the Main Stage provides
children's entertainment. At night, the Music Festival goes into full swing with

Annual Fitzwilliam Antiques Show and Sale

Each July The Fitzwilliam Historical Society presents their Annual Antiques
Show and Sale on the Fitzwilliam Common, under the trees and surrounded by
the town's historic buildings. More than 50 dealers, carefully selected for the

and 19th century country and formal furniture and accessories including china,

Annual Stratham Fair

The tradition goes on: the Stratham Fair is one of the oldest Country Fairs in New
England. What started as a 250th anniversary celebration with a Lobster Bake and
some Horse Pulling for amusement has grown into an event that is attended by
over 75,000 people each year. This year will again see the Horse Pulls and Lobster
Festival that started it all plus the Miss Stratham Fair Pageant, the Pie Eating
Contest and the Pig Scramble; the Lasagna Supper, and the Chicken Bar-B-Q; and
the Sunday Night Fireworks Extravaganza; and, of course, what is a Fair without

Annual League of New Hampshire Craftsmen's Fair

More than 300 state-juried members of the League of NH Craftsmen demonstrate,
exhibit and sell their handcrafted work during one of the largest, finest, and
oldest craft fairs in the country. The fair features three major exhibitions,
including Living With Craft, CraftWear and an outdoor Sculpture Garden, plus
more than 200 individual craft booths, daily demonstrations, musical
performances and a variety of craft workshops for both children and adults.

Annual North Country Moose Festival

Foliage Trains in the White Mountains

Hobo Railroad is running scheduled scenic foliage trains on weekends with a
view of the foliage along the Pemigewassett River. Round trip is 1 hour 20

Known for its hugely diverse program, highlights include the Gathering of the

piping and drumming, Scottish harp and other instrument competitions.

Annual NH Quilters' Harvest Hop
Held Throughout New Hampshire

For $7.50 you can get a passport (and a shop hop T-shirt while supplies last) at
any of the nine participating shops throughout NH. Great food, fun and prizes.
Grand prizes – a restaurant and quilt shop gift certificate basket, a Pfaff sewing
machine, and an ocean-view get-away week-end for two. Completion prize is a

Each autumn, the city of Keene comes alive with the sights and sounds of this
annual celebration of community, bringing together thousands of people and
families from near and far. At the heart of the festival’s popularity is its emphasis
on participation. You are not just a spectator, you are the key to festival’s success.
Everyone who carves a pumpkin with their own special face or design adds to
the fun, not to mention the world record! Thousands contribute to the spectacle
by bringing their own hand-carved pumpkins. The sight of more than 25,000
brightly lit jack-o-lanterns lining Keene’s Main Street and towering over the
square is an unforgettable experience.

Thanksgiving Farm Fare

Each year Stonewall Farm hosts Farm Fare in order to promote local agriculture
and encourage people to buy locally-produced food. This year’s featured
products include top-quality, homegrown, and handmade vinegars, pies and
baked goods, mustards, maple syrup, jams, jellies, pickles, beeswax candles,
organic vegetables, cheeses, pesto, and more – including cornucopia centerpieces
and floral arrangements for your table. Lunch and snacks will be available at the
Farmhouse Kitchen, run by dietetic interns from Keene State College. Proceeds
from the Kitchen help support the event.

village of completely edible goodies made by children, families, and professional
entrants in our Visitor Education Center. Prizes will be awarded in each category.
